Coming Out Christian: Advent of Love
“As we wait and reflect during the season of Advent, looking toward the joy of Christmas, I firmly believe that we will achieve a world in which LGBTQ people everywhere are protected and thriving, and that LGBTQ people of faith are able to feel the joy of living into every aspect of our identities. I believe that a change is, in fact, gonna come. Would it be so.” Michael Vazquez | Director of HRC Foundation’s Religion and Faith Program
Join us for this four-week, live Advent exploration of the synthesis of living a fully integrated life as a queer Christian. Led by blogger, pastor and queer Christian, Kimberly Knight Laskowski. Learn more about Kimberly here.
We will explore a matrix of human experience, scripture, tradition, and spiritual practices that help LGBTQ+ Christians claim their sacred worth and flourish in life and faith. We will engage sacred and secular texts, video excerpts, denominational resources and our own stories as LGBTQ+ people of faith.
Topics explored:
- What scripture does and does not say about homosexuality
- Navigating the intersection of being queer and Christian (coming out as queer in Christian communities and coming out as Christian in queer communities)
- Finding local communities of faith that are open and affirming
- Introduction to Queer theology
- Contemplative practices
- Sacred storytelling
- Faithful allyship
